Tea Classes

History of Tea and Tea Ware     90 minutes             $10.00

Specific tea pots were conceptualized and designed to prepare specific teas.  If you can’t get enough of the fascinating stories and lore surrounding our favorite beverage, this is the class for you.  Scoops, caddies, cozies, you name it, all play an integral part in tea’s presentation.  From Japanese side handled pots, Chinese Yixing (that will actually “refuse” to brew the wrong tea) to a German porcelain “sleeping” tea pot, you’ll see unusual pots and accoutrements and get the stories behind their unique design for tea.  You’ll also taste a delicious and just as wide ranging, variety of teas worthy of their historic and fascinating presentation.

Tea Basics            90 minutes $10.00

Learn about tea from the ground up; from its botanical origin, the difference between White, Green, Oolong and Black tea, how the leaves which grow on the plant become the leaves that steep in the cup.  We’ll share stories about the “discovery” of tea and some of the legends that make up the rich history of this ancient, remarkable beverage.  Brief section on health benefits as well as simple techniques and guidelines for brewing the perfect cup of tea.  You will sample some great teas and come away with an understanding that will greatly enhance your appreciation and enjoyment of tea.  This is where you get started for a life long love affair with tea!

Iced Tea            90 minutes             $10.00

Ahhhh… Summer, and what does the avid tea lover enjoy more in summer than ICE TEA.  I’ll brew up and chill down some great teas that really hit the spot when the heat is on.  I’ll show you a variety of unique, convenient and easy methods for using loose tea to make ice tea in any quantity from one glass just for you, or how to pull it off for a crowd.  Certain teas chill better, don’t cloud and have flavor profiles that stand up better to ice.  We’ll taste a bunch of them and I’ll tell you why.  I’ll also introduce you to a new line of “sweat free” glasses just right for summer refreshing!

There’s been a lot of interest in this class, the timing is perfect, don’t miss it!
